ABOUT THE AUTHOR Jan Kanafoski is a sailor, boat builder, and professional wanderer who's spent his life chasing horizons instead of paychecks. Born in Poland in 1982, raised in the clay hills of Georgia, and forged in the salt and storms of a dozen seas, Jan has built boats in landlocked steel mills, run hurricane relief in the Bahamas, and crossed oceans on vessels held together with spite and duct tape. He's been shipwrecked, detained, deported, rescued, and arrested—sometimes all in the same year. He's lived on everything from derelict trawlers to hand-built catamarans, survived fires at sea and bureaucratic nightmares on land, and somehow kept his sense of humor intact. When he's not rebuilding boats or dodging immigration officers, Jan writes, fixes things that probably shouldn't be fixed, and dreams of the day he can finish his round-the-world voyage without another government getting in the way.
